Courtney, an expert tutor, is a 3rd grade school teacher. She has a B.S. in human services from the University of Delaware and is currently working toward earning a M.A. in literacy instruction from Caldwell University. Courtney is an NJ k-6 certified teacher and enjoys teaching all subjects. Courtney ensures that each tutoring session meets the individual's needs. She enjoys getting to know the students, and incorporates their interests and strengths into each lesson. Courtney strongly believes that learning should be fun and helps build the students' confidence by encouraging them to do their best and always ask questions. Kristen, a master tutor, has a B.A. and M.A. in special needs and a minor in English literature from College of Saint Elizabeth. She has more than 6 years of teaching and tutoring experience. She enjoys tutoring elementary and middle school students. She is a 4th grade teacher in Esther Jackson Elementary School, a title 1 focus school with an urban population of multicultural students in Atlanta, Georgia. As a classroom teacher, Kristen created units of study in math, guided reading, ELA, and social studies. Kristen took part in several professional development training courses that allowed her to become proficient in technology. Kristen frequently used her promethean boards and student laptops, along with Animoto, Edmodo, and KidBlog within lesson plans. She used other differentiated, multi-sensory learning centers and activities where applicable in an effort to enhance the learning environment for the children. For her students, she always focused on the level of rigor and higher order thinking presented in each lesson. The passing rate for the specific students she taught were: math 94, reading 100, ELA 95, social studies 91.

Melisa, a master tutor, received her B.S. in elementary education with a concentration in Spanish from Iona College. She is a certified teacher with a passion for teaching. Melisa is currently teaching all subjects for 3rd grade but has 5 years of teaching experience as a Spanish teacher for grades K-8, as well as general education for grades 4 and 5. Melisa also has experience tutoring children from ages 5 to 18 years old in all different subjects and areas they struggle with. She is a hard worker with creative, current strategies and methods to better help children with their struggles and/or strengths. She is up-to-date with the latest technology which she feels is a useful asset to education today. Melisa bases her tutoring lessons on individual needs and on each student's learning style. Melissa is a certified teacher with a specialized certification in mathematics. She is a highly qualified mathematics educator with 5 years of experience teaching grade 7 mathematics in Paterson, NJ. She also has 5 years of experience tutoring elementary, middle and high school students in both basic mathematics skills and standardized test preparation. She believes that confidence is the key ingredient to success, and she is very passionate about inspiring students through support and encouragement. Melissa develops a rapport with each of her students, which allows her to tailor each session to the needs and learning styles of each individual and make learning fun! Mark, a master tutor, is an educator with over 25 years of experience teaching college English and writing. He has a B.A. from Wesleyan University, a M.A. from Georgetown, and a Ph.D ABD from Temple University in English and American literature. Mark also has experience teaching the SAT verbal section. Currently he teaches English and writing at Fairleigh Dickinson University, County College of Morris, and Raritan Valley Community College. His teaching philosophy is that while maintaining high standards in academia, he can then devote himself to being his pupil's ally in achieving those standards. Mark is a fitness fanatic and runner while also having a passion for social service and volunteering.

Bob, a master tutor, graduated from the University of Scranton in 2008 with a B.S. in counseling and human service degree. After graduation he began working at a residential treatment center for high school boys for two years. He was then accepted into the Nashville Teaching Fellows, an alternative teaching program through Belmont University. Though the program he taught resource and inclusion in a middle school setting. In 2012 he received a M.A. in special education. This last summer Bob returned to New Jersey and became the behavioral disability teacher in school #2, an elementary school in Linden.

Stephen, a master tutor, is a scientist/teacher with over 4 years of experience tutoring middle, high school and college students. He has a B.A. in life sciences from Rutgers University and a Ph.D. in immunology and microbial pathogenesis from Thomas Jefferson University. He teaches biology, physics and Earth science at the high school level, and has tutored in the sciences and math extensively. Stephen’s tutoring style is to make a connection with the student, creating a favorable environment for the student-tutor interaction. This allows for an easy exchange of concepts and a less stressful experience, while the actual tutoring materials will depend upon the student’s needs and learning style. He is very capable at explaining scientific theories and concepts in a manner making it easy to understand and remember. During his down time, Stephen enjoys reading, both playing and following sports, and enjoying pop culture.

Tara, a master tutor, has her M.A. in English/Writing. She has a passion for anything relating to writing or reading. Currently she teaches high school and college level English. She is looking forward to the opportunity to work individually with students. She's excited to develop their English skills and get to know them as individual learners.

Tara teaches English full-time at Chancellor Academy in Pompton Plains. Additionally, she has taught developmental reading, writing and English composition II at Essex County College, Bergen Community College and County College of Morris. At these institutions she also taught English basics skills, English comp I & II, modern literary masterpieces, and public speaking.

Prior to teaching English, Tara worked with pre-k and kindergarten children for over ten years.

Valerie, a master tutor, is a certified elementary and special education teacher with 8 years of tutoring experience. She has a B.A.Ed. from Rider University. She also earned a special education k-8 certification from Centenary College. Lastly, she's earned an M.A. in educational technology from Marygrove College. She has training in Orton-Gillingham and Wilson multi sensory reading programs. She has taught in both general education and special education settings (self-contained, resource room, in-class support and inclusion.) She's worked with students from kindergarten through 8th grade in diverse, blue ribbon New Jersey school districts. Currently, Valerie is a learning specialist at Golda Och Academy, working primarily with students in kindergarten and 3rd grade. She specializes in providing differentiated instruction and making the appropriate accommodations to meet the needs of every student. This allows them to build confidence and reach their fullest potential. In her spare time, Valerie loves to read, jog, and go hiking.

Paul, a master tutor, attended Rutgers University and received a B.A. in English Literature and a B.A. in history. He is a 46-year-old English teacher with 20 years of experience in his field and was born and raised in NJ. He has tutored students successful strategies for the SAT and ACT Verbal sections.
Paul enjoys creative writing and watching films. He also enjoys playing board games, video games, and role-playing games. His all time favorite film is "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly". His favorite book is "Ice and Fire".

Patricia, a master tutor, graduated from Caldwell College with a B.A. in social studies and certificate in elementary education K-5. She is a passionate and enthusiastic third grade, general education teacher. She is currently a fifth year teacher at Haledon Public School. Previously, Patricia has taught second and third grade special education and basic skills instruction in an inclusive classroom. She also has extensive experience working with students with various learning disabilities and behavioral disorders, as well as gifted and talented students. She has been tutoring students in various subject areas, such as reading, writing, grammar, phonics/spelling, math, science, and social studies for the past four years. Patricia is extremely familiar with elementary level PARCC Testing, as well as the elementary level Common Core standards. Patricia has numerous hours of professional development. Some of these professional development hours include Orton-Gillingham (multi-sensory phonics program for struggling readers), dyslexia, Journey’s Reading Program and Curriculum, third grade Common Core math, and reader’s and writer’s workshops. Ruth, a master tutor, has been teaching in public schools for many years. She loves working with students one-on-one because it is a great way to make connections and achieve success with the learning objectives. Ruth has a love for animals and the outdoors. In the past, she has had a variety of pets including horses, chickens, pigs, a cow, along with dogs and cats. Currently, she has just one pet, a rescue cat, named Cowboy.

Rharia, a master tutor, earned a B.B.A. from Baruch College. She then earned a M.A. in education from NJCU. She is a certified teacher who has been teaching for over 15 years. She currently teaches 2nd grade as a dual language teacher in Englewood, NJ. She has taught in all the levels; from pre-kindergarten to middle school. Rharia has spent most of her teaching career in elementary education, specifically second grade. Her teaching style is a combination of using visuals and manipulates in order to make the concepts more understandable and concrete for her students. It is also very important to Rharia that she build a rapport with the students, which brings forth a smooth transition into improving their learning.

Rebekah, a master tutor, has been teaching kindergarten for nine years and loves every minute of it. She graduated in 2006 with a dual certification in early childhood and elementary education from Kean University. In addition to her dual certification, she recently received her M.A. in educational leadership from Seton Hall. She loves motivating children and watching them succeed! Reginald attended Montclair State University, where he earned his Bachelors degree in Mathematics and is currently earning his Masters in Education. His experience in tutoring ranges from primary school (K-5) all the way to high school. He has coached students in mathematics and the sciences such as physics and chemistry at Montclair Kimberley Academy for 5 years! He makes learning math fun and easy. Ron, a master tutor, is a retired chemical engineer with more than thirty-five years of project management experience. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering from New York University, and his Master of Engineering from The City College of New York, both in Chemical Engineering. Concurrently with his long-term engineering career, Ron went back to graduate school and obtained a Master of Arts in Education as well as his Professional Clear California State Teaching Credential from Azusa Pacific University. He has more than fifteen years of classroom experience, as both a high school math and science teacher, and adjunct professor of mathematics at Argosy University in California. Throughout his teaching career, Ron has tutored elementary, secondary, and post-secondary students in all levels of mathematics, chemistry, and physics, in both public and private environments. While he was raising his children in Westchester County, New York, Ron served seven years as a Trustee of the Board of Education of the Yorktown Central School District, as well as volunteering for many activities within the district schools. During that same time period, he owned and operated (along with his wife) the Open Day Pre-School in Mohegan Lake, New York. Finally, Ron is a veteran of the United States Army, with active service during the Vietnam War.

Shellie, a master tutor, graduated from Pennsylvania State University, earning a B.A. in journalism and history. She is an experienced communications executive, former teacher, and adjunct college professor. Her talent is making complex concepts clear and bringing out the best in students challenged by their English courses and examinations. Shellie is available to tutor in all aspects of the English language and written communication: grammar and syntax; literature comprehension; research skills, writing and paper preparation. Shellie also tutors students to prepare for the English and written portions of the ACT, PSAT and ACT exams. Shellie's philosophy is to balance the student's short-term interest in a good grade with the essential long-term need for improving overall writing and critical thinking skills. A student should never become dependent on tutoring. Shellie's focus is to encourage students to think for themselves and to become confident in their own, improving skills.

Saarah has over 10 years of teaching experience and enjoys working with students of all ages. She has been a STEM instructor for the last 3 years in New Jersey. She received her master's degree in Sustainability and Leadership and enjoys incorporating creativity in her classes. Christina has experience working at a Middle School in a 7th grade classroom as well. Christina is currently working as a teacher in a special education school in Belleville, NJ. She teaches US history and world history at the high school level. Christina loves to write and has creative strategies that she implements when assisting struggling writers.

Salvatore, a master tutor, graduated from Kean with a Bachelor's degree in English and then earned his Post-baccalaureate Teaching Certification. Since then, he has been teaching English and yearbook classes at Colonia High School. Salvatore has worked with students of all ages and learning abilities. What he focuses on most with his students is the ability to boost their reading comprehension and to be able to write a well-organized, focused paper. In addition to these two ideas, he works with students to find their own voice instead of simply regurgitating information back. He never teaches a story the same way twice to keep the material fresh and adapts it to our current society. One of the most rewarding classes he teaches is a class where he works with Senior students who have yet to fulfill their graduation requirements. In the past two years, he has had a 100% success rate in helping students fulfill their requirement before having to take part in a state portfolio assessment. He has also worked with Seniors on refining their college essays and helping them plan out their post-high school education plans. In addition to teaching, Salvatore was the high school adviser for the joint venture with Colonia Middle School in the Big Brother/Big Sister Mentor Program.

Sally, an expert tutor, has been a professional educator for the past three years. She has had the pleasure of reaching out to students ranging in all ages in order to assist them with algebra 1 and 2, geometry, and calculus. He then proceeded to graduate medical school within the top 15% of his medical college graduating class in 2013. Sarin is passionate about teaching and would like to inspire, motivate, and teach students to become successful in their academic careers. Sarin tutors various subjects including advanced placement Biology, advanced placement chemistry, advanced placement physics, pre-algebra, algebra I/II, geometry, pre-calculus, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, SAT math (Scored 800), ACT, GRE, GMAT, and TOEFL. Shaneze, a master tutor, has been tutoring for over 10 years for students ranging in ages 8-25. She's tutored in math, science, language arts and standardized tests. In undergrad, she tutored science/pre-med majors and as a result of her students excelling, she was offered a position to be a part-time biology professor at Rutgers. Shari's passion for the study of literature, research and writing has been the focus of her career for over 31 years. She was a high school English teacher in Edison for 8 years. For the past 23 years, she has enjoyed being the librarian of JP Stevens High School in Edison. Shari is passionate about her work because she has the opportunity to interact with and instruct all of the students in the school. Her goal is to help students develop skills necessary to succeed outside of and beyond high school and become lifelong learners. Shari loves spending time with her now adult children! And, in her spare time, she reads, runs and travels.
