Science Tutoring

Aaron, a master tutor, currently teaches 11th-grade English and 9th-grade Creative Writing. He has experience teaching grades 9-12, including AP English Language and Composition, Creative Writing, as well as Shakespeare's major works. Aaron has extensive tutoring and test prep experience. He has assisted many student in preparing for the SAT and ACT exams. In addition, he has assisted students in preparing for the ISEE, SSAT, and WrAP exams. He takes his time to carefully explain and break down content in a way that is palatable because he feels that many students are intimidated by the daunting quantity and quality of academia that is aligned with standardized testing; part of his job is alleviating that intimidation by breaking down the test and dissecting it piece by piece with the students. Aaron is very skilled at refining college essays and guiding students through the application process. He sees himself as a facilitator of precise writing and critical reading. Aaron immerses himself along with his students in the art of writing by modeling the edits and revisions. His students have shown growth in their test-taking abilities and they enjoy his energetic enthusiasm; making questions/content relevant to students which helps tremendously in their retention of information. Aaron values independent practice work in order to maintain consistency and promote diligent work habits. Aaron caters to the cognitive needs of all students.

Amy, a master tutor, has almost 20 years of experience working with children with special needs. Amy is highly-skilled in teaching struggling readers and is certified in Special Education and Orton Gillingham trained. Amy is experienced with developing and implementing IEP goals to enhance student achievement. She can collaborate with teachers, child study teams, and parents for students with autism, learning disabilities, developmental delays, and behavioral issues. She is a kindhearted and empathetic professional who develops hands-on lessons and differentiates instruction to meet the needs of each individual child.

Alex, a master tutor, graduated from Montclair State University in 2011 and specialized in family and child studies. She has worked with children her entire life, from babysitting to daycare to tutoring to teaching. She has tutored a range of students from the elementary level to the high school level. She has experience teaching grades 3-6. She is currently an ENCORE teacher in the West Milford district, helping students in these grades with both ELA and math. Alex has a specialization in middle school math, where she taught 6th grade math for 3 years. Math has always been her strength and she enjoys watching students understand the concepts from her examples and connections. Her bubbly personality and her quick/comfortable rapport with her students allows them to feel comfortable to ask for help and understand the content. Alex has always loved working with children and looks forward to all of their 'Aha!' moments. Tutoring is something she would like to continue to do outside of her regular teaching position.

Alexandra, an expert tutor, earned her Bachelor’s degree in Theatre at Fairleigh Dickinson University, and her interest in acting helps bring a lot of energy and creativity into her instruction. She also completed a double minor in Literature and British Studies, and is well versed in many kinds of literature from America, England, and around the world. She received her Masters in Education in 2014 and is certified to teach secondary English in New Jersey. Alexandra has extensive experience tutoring SAT and ACT English, Reading, and Essay sections. She has also tutored students in the reading section of the ISEE, and helped many students brainstorm and create the perfect college admissions essay. All of her students have gotten into the college they wanted! She has extensive knowledge of grammar and essay structure and experience in helping students one on one with essay writing. Alexandra decided to go into tutoring because she loved the idea getting students comfortable in a personal learning environment so that they could gain skills that would help them in later life.

Albert, a master tutor, was awarded a M.Ed. from Fairleigh Dickinson University and is currently working on his Ed.D. at Seton Hall University. In addition to pursuing his Doctorate, Al currently works as a Mathematics/ELA and Leadership Coach in several school districts. He has been an educator and senior educational administrator in New Jersey for more than 18 years. He has worked as a teacher, a central office administrator, an assistant principal, and a high school principal. Al gained valuable experience working in various counties across the state of New Jersey. He has a keen understanding of the needs, inadequacies and challenges of providing special services to students with special needs.

Allie, an expert tutor, graduated Magna cum Laude from DeSales University with a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.S. in Biology. She officially began tutoring as a junior in high school and continued during all four years of her undergraduate college years. Allie received K-12 New Jersey teaching certifications in both Chemistry and Biology by completing the Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) program at Seton Hall University. She is currently working towards earning her master's degree in Instructional Design and Technology. She has always loved tutoring and her friendly and energetic demeanor allows her students to feel comfortable to ask questions and show their understanding of the content. Over the years, she has acquired many tutoring tips and tricks that lead her students to the rewarding "aha" moment of understanding the material. She has a passion for science and uses it to inspire and encourage her students! When she is not tutoring, she enjoys spending time outside (specifically hiking) and crocheting sleeping mats for those in need. She also plays various musical instruments, including guitar, piano, and mellophone!

Afia, a master tutor, has a M.A. in special education. She studied history and psychology during her undergraduate years. She is a certified k-6 elementary school teacher and a highly qualified k-12 social studies and psychology teacher. Afia also has experience teaching 6th and 7th grade math. She is currently working as a teacher in Paterson. Afia enjoys teaching and loves making lessons as hands on as possible to address the different learning styles of her students.

Amanda, a master tutor, has an M.Ed. from Rutgers University, as well as an M.A. in international affairs from the American University of Paris. Amanda is a passionate, creative and energetic teacher of French with an extensive background in ESL. As a teacher, she works closely with her students to make sure they acquire not only the material at hand, but also the skills needed to continue learning on their own. Amanda has been teaching in the classroom for 10 years on 3 continents in various countries including the U.S., France, China and South Korea. She has been the teacher adviser for the French honor society, the book club and the soccer club. She has tutored students in preparation for the SAT as well. Amanda is also an avid fan of history and literature. In her free-time she enjoys travel, reading and visiting museum exhibits.

Nelly, an expert tutor, is a licensed, practicing attorney with a B.S. Her science background allowed her to hone her knowledge of mathematics, and her expertise in English and writing is part of her daily professional life. She is eager to work with students of various ages and pass onto them the knowledge and skills that she has acquired. She has tutored her peers in mathematics throughout high school and at the beginning of college. Additionally, she has trained and supervised high school and college students during her judicial clerkship. Her responsibilities in that capacity included teaching high school and college interns the techniques and strategies to comprehend complex materials. She also provided instruction on drafting and revising memorandum and legal documents. The ultimate goal was to enhance their understanding of the legal system as well as developing exceptionally strong writing skills.
Furthermore, Nelly advises clients daily as part of her legal career, and she has worked with clients and witnesses of all ages, including children. Providing guidance to clients contains a teaching component. She can convey information patiently and effectively to anyone, regardless of his or her age or ability. Nelly is enthusiastic about tutoring and is looking forward to providing support, encouragement, and instilling confidence in the students she works with.
In her free time, Nelly enjoys reading, cooking, and hiking. She also takes care of her hamster named Claire Underwood. Nelly is of an Eastern European descent and speaks Ukrainian, Russian, and Polish.

Anne, a master tutor, has been teaching early elementary grades for more than 10 years. She is currently teaching kindergarten at a public school in New Jersey. Anne has a master's degree in education with an added authorization for teaching literacy and reading. She is very passionate about teaching early reading and math skills. Anne takes a very systematic approach to teaching phonics, reading, and math skills. By identifying and pinpointing individual needs, she is able to target specific skills to work on to show measurable growth in these subject areas. Anne caters to her students' individual learning styles to incorporate different techniques and engagement strategies to make learning fun and meaningful. When she is not teaching, Anne loves to read and travel.

Albert, a master tutor, has a decade of experience as a private tutor, alongside impeccable educational credentials and numerous commendations and certifications, Albert is a consummate master of Mathematics, teaching all levels, from elementary through college curricula. His specialties comprise of: Algebra, Algebra 2, Calculus, and Basic Math. He also tutors a wide range of standardized tests.

For Albert, tutoring isn't work; it’s a fulfilling activity that he would jump at the chance to do. He likes being a positive influence in a student’s life and enjoy using his knowledge to help them succeed in school.

He has been academically savvy throughout my life. He is a consistent honors student in high school and college, while consistently active in extracurricular activities. Albert was previously trained at several tutoring organizations as a math and test prep tutor, and also taught students in the North NJ areas.

Currently, he is working toward Teaching Certification from a comprehensive and rigorous education program.

April, a master tutor, is creative, patient, and has a passion for teaching. She has her M.A. in Early Childhood and Special Education and B.A. in Psychology. April has experience working in both general ed and special ed classrooms from grades K-3. She is currently a kindergarten special education teacher in Orange, NJ. April understands the importance of differentiating lessons based on student needs and learning styles. She provides individualized support and breaks down concepts that are easier to understand for a child who is struggling during a lesson. As students gain more understanding and exceed expectations, she challenges students by providing rigor within the activities. April likes to create hands on lessons that are fun and engaging. She always encourages students to do their best!

Ashley-Lynn, an expert tutor, is currently an environmental consultant with a private firm. She graduated with her B.S. of Sustainability Sciences in 2016 and her M.S. of Sustainability Sciences in 2017, with the high honors of summa cum laude. During her time in University, she was a teaching assistant for the Human Environment course at Montclair State University. Her tutoring experience has been varied over the past 8 years, with a background in Science, Math, US History and English. Her organizational skills and academic background also allow her to teach students the study skills, time management, and test taking techniques to be successful.
Ashley-Lynn is an outgoing individual with a creative tutoring style that stresses the fun of learning through interactive games and lessons for younger children or relevant content for older students. Ashley-Lynn is also fluent in Spanish, enjoys outdoor activities, and loves to sing. Her favorite Broadway show is "Hamilton: An American Musical" because it brings the vibrancy of music and theatre to the American revolution. She loves the unique way that history is taught and aims to do the same in her teaching. Ashley-Lynn looks forward to working with students of all ages as they dive headfirst into the exciting world of learning.

Ashley, a Master tutor, has a BA in Education and a Master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. She is an experienced Elementary School Teacher who has been working in the field for 5 years. Ashley has experience working with all students of different abilities from Preschool age through 5th grade. Her specialty is modifying and adapting curriculum, pace and instruction to best meet the needs of each individual learner. She is always looking for ways to make learning fun and enjoyable so that it can be based around a student's individual interest.

Annamarie, a master tutor, has been an accomplished middle school science teacher for 9 years. Having taught sixth, seventh, and eighth grade science, she is able to effectively interact with a diverse population of students at a variety of academic levels, by making use of her own fun and unique style of teaching. From an early age, Annamarie has always loved to teach and started out as a dancing instructor. In addition, she also has a passion for science and received both her B.S. and M.S. in science from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She initially worked in a hospital lab, where she taught medical microbiology. She then decided to attend teaching classes at New Jersey City State College so that she could assist younger learners. In 2010, Annamarie became a fully certified NJ state K-8 teacher with a specialization in science for grades 5 through 8. She has spent many years tutoring students both after school as well as well as privately especially for grades 6 through 8. Annamarie also has experience working with general education and special education in both formal and informal settings. She currently teaches eighth grade science at a public school in Bergen County where she continues to prepare students to be successful by understanding their individual learning styles.

Carolina, a master tutor, graduated in May 2005 with a B.A. in early childhood education with a minor in psychology. She received her master's in school counseling in 2010. Carolina is an experienced k-5 elementary school teacher. She has over 10 years of teaching experience working for the Morris School District. She has taught kindergarten, 1st grade, and for the last 2 years has been the reading intervention teacher for k-5. Carolina currently lives in Union and loves to spend time with her two children in her spare time.

Brian, a master tutor, received his BA from Montclair State University and an MA in teaching from Monmouth University. He is certified to teach grades k-5 with an additional certification in middle school math. Brian is currently teaching 7th-grade math in Dover, after teaching 8th-grade math for 7 years. In addition to teaching, Brian coaches girls volleyball and spring track, and also runs the builders club, a community service organization. In his free time, Brian spends time with his wife and dog and plays kickball in a co-ed adult kickball league.

PanteA, a master tutor, received her PhD in Film Studies from the University of Dortmund in Germany before immigrating to the United States in 2007. She also received 30 credits in math, and is an experienced math professor at several local colleges and universities. She is also an experienced tutor, helping students prepare for the ACT and SAT. PanteA is fluent in Farsi and German and can tutor in these languages as well.

Bianca, an expert tutor, graduated from Jersey City University with a B.A. in Social Studies. She has been working with students and molding young minds since 2008. She graduated from New Jersey City University and is a certified K-12 social studies teacher. Professionally, Bianca is currently teaching high school US I Honors, and AP Psychology at Don Bosco Prep; she has also taught US II and Economics at West Orange High School in addition to eighth grade American History in Kearny, NJ. Bianca strives to work with students to find out how they learn best, and implement the best strategies possible along with innovative activities that address and enrich the many diverse interests and needs of students. She is an enthusiastic educator with a passionate commitment to student centered development and the learning experience. She keeps high standards for herself and the students she works with and emphasizes relevance of class material to the world beyond the classroom.

Lindita, an expert tutor, is currently a graduate student pursuing a degree in business administration at Felician University. She has recently graduated from a private university with a B.A. in social and behavioral science from Felician University where she currently works as an institutional research analyst. Lindita has experience working as a para-professional where she assisted two students who had focusing difficulties. In addition, she worked as substitute teacher for three years assisted grades k-12 . During that time, she substitute taught 5 days a week for varied grades at three different schools in Garfield. Lastly, Lindita worked as a long term substitute teacher for a 4th grade classroom. She has high competency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word. Her compassion in helping students meet their true potential is very important to her. She tries to incorporate play activities during sessions when possible in making the educational experience be more enjoyable for students.

Bonnie Sue, a master of multi-sensory learning, has designed and implemented new programs - in a private school setting, small public schools and for a large district. In each of the schools, the programs she developed were successful, allowing the students to demonstrate considerable progress academically and socially. She served as a Literacy Program Trainer and provided consultation/support for classroom teachers. While working for one public school, Bonnie Sue developed and implemented a literacy program in a Language Arts Resource Room setting. The students in these classes were held to high standards, with an expectation of growth and measurable achievement. She designed a targeted, multi-sensory program that included an Orton-Gillingham Language Circle curriculum approach, computer-based instruction and a vocabulary program integrating music, reading comprehension and writing connections. The students in her classes ranged in ability; struggling readers/writers, students at grade-level and students reading at an advanced level.

As a special education teacher at a private school, Bonnie Sue designed curriculum that provided all student populations with extensive interaction and opportunities for growth and communication. The program was based on a multi-sensory approach; she included music, reading buddies, small group work, hands-on life skills practice and Reading Therapy dogs.

Bonnie Sue has also taught at the college level as an adjunct professor. In order to provide a quality special education component for both undergraduate and graduate students, she needed to be in touch with the latest research. She taught both in-person classes and worked with a blended, online format.

In her spare time, Bonnie Sue enjoys gardening (flowers, herbs and vegetables) reading, playing the piano and enjoying her many critters.

Brandon, an expert tutor, is a very talented tutor who has helped students excel in mathematics and science. He is skilled at making complicated subjects appear seamless. Brandon tutors elementary math, middle school math, algebra I/II, geometry, trig, pre-calc and calculus as well as statistics. In addition, Brandon is well versed in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Brandon received a perfect score on the math portion of the SAT. He is a talented test prep tutor, chess and math and science tutor. He enjoys helping students to develop skills and confidence. In his spare time, Brandon likes to play and watch basketball.

Brian, an expert tutor, is a highly experienced math tutor. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000 with a B.A. in mathematics. In 2009, he also earned an M.B.A. from The Wharton School. His experience with tutoring began as an undergraduate, where he was a top tutor his university's peer tutoring department. Since then, he has worked closely with students across a wide range of ages, from elementary school through the college level. Brian is passionate about teaching math and is especially good at breaking down difficult concepts in ways that are easy to understand. He believes that tutoring sessions should be a safe space for students to try new approaches to their work. Sessions should also be a time when students feel comfortable making mistakes, as mistakes can often lead to the best learning experiences.

Marcel, a master tutor, completed Medical School and is now in his 4th year of his residency program at Duke. Marcel taught chemistry formally at an urban high school before attending Medical School. Overall, he has 11 years of tutoring experience and is successful with his energetic, passionate and boisterous personality. Marcel likes to tutor through style of attrition where he will present the most difficult questions possible so that the student can struggle through and then they can work together to get the answer. This helps to make the student feel more comfortable with material faster because once they are in the classroom things are easier.

Claudia, a master tutor, is currently a graduate student at Montclair State University studying bilingual education. She has been a teacher for 10 years. Teaching in Bergen, Passaic and Essex counties. Claudia has been teaching in Newark  Public Schools for the past 5 years. She has worked with students within different capacities, as a resource teacher working with students with specific learning disabilities, behavioral and multiple disabilities, grades pre-k through 5th grade. She has also taught dual language in English and Spanish. In addition, she has tutored elementary age children focusing on language arts, math, and ESL. Claudia believes that every child has the potential to overcome challenges and provides strategies to help students while making learning fun. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, doing community service, attending church, reading a good book, watching a play/ movie, traveling, eating different foods and being of service to others.
